Clayton County police have arrested Christopher Harold Lovett, 59, who investigators allege dragged an officer with his vehicle while fleeing a traffic stop in Riverdale, Georgia, on Oct. 21. Authorities announced the arrest Oct. 30, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

The U.S. Marshals Service, South Fulton police and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office helped locate and arrest Lovett. Police had recovered and impounded his vehicle shortly after the incident, but said he escaped on foot, prompting a search and a public wanted notice.

Investigators said the officer stopped the vehicle near Garden Walk Boulevard and Medical Center Drive, next to Charles R. Drew High School. The driver then accelerated away, dragging the officer, according to police.

The officer suffered head and body injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening. Emergency crews took the officer to a hospital; the officer was discharged shortly afterward and was still recovering at home when police announced the arrest.

Clayton County Public Schools said emergency vehicles temporarily blocked nearby roads, but the school was not locked down and no students or staff were involved.

As of FOX 5’s Oct. 30 report, authorities had not disclosed where Lovett was arrested, identified the injured officer or detailed the charges. The reason for the initial traffic stop also remained undisclosed.
