Cobb County detectives are investigating the death of a man found shot outside a home in Powder Springs, Georgia, on Friday night, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

Powder Springs officers responded to the 3000 block of Mustang Drive and found the man, who died at the scene, police said. The Cobb County Police Department assumed responsibility for the investigation.

As of FOX 5’s Oct. 31 report, authorities were withholding the man’s identity and age until relatives could be notified. No suspect or arrest had been announced, and investigators had not disclosed a motive. Although the man was found outside, police had not said whether the shooting itself happened inside or outside the home.

Georgia Garcia told FOX 5 reporter Hernan Gutierrez that she was celebrating her daughter’s birthday when she heard noises she first thought were fireworks. After going outside, she saw a body near an SUV and called 911. Garcia said the discovery left her shaken and worried about children who regularly play in the neighborhood.

Authorities said they did not perceive an ongoing threat to the surrounding community. Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact Cobb County police at 770-499-3945.
