Police in Nigeria’s Plateau State have arrested Davou Dachung, 40, on suspicion of killing his wife, Jessica Davou, at their home in Jos South Local Government Area, Premium Times Nigeria reported on 31 October.
State police spokesperson Alfred Alabo said Dachung allegedly shot his wife in the chest with a locally made firearm after a domestic dispute in Haita Fwil village, in the Vwang area of Kogot district. She was taken to a hospital, where she was later confirmed dead.
Alabo said the incident was reported to Kaduna Vom Divisional Police Headquarters on 20 October. Plateau police commissioner Ayodeji Faniyan then ordered the local divisional police officer to send officers to the scene. Dachung was subsequently arrested.
According to Alabo, officers initially found a locally made firearm and live cartridges during a search of the residence. He said detectives from the State Violent Crime Response Unit recovered more weapons following further questioning, bringing the reported seizure to three firearms and five cartridges.
The State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case. Alabo said Dachung would face court charges once investigators completed their work; the report did not say that charges had already been filed.
