Weekend shootings near college communities in Indiana, Delaware, Alabama, Illinois and Colorado killed three people and reportedly injured at least 29 others, according to FOX5 Atlanta’s Nov. 1 report, which cited police and university statements. The Delaware toll remained provisional.

Two of the attacks occurred near major college football events. In Birmingham, Alabama, police said one person died and eight were wounded near Legion Field after the Magic City Classic between Alabama A&M and Alabama State. Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said the gunfire erupted near vendors along Graymont Avenue after most spectators had left the stadium property. Police detained one person for questioning and recovered multiple weapons.

Near Indiana University’s homecoming in Bloomington, seven people were hospitalized. Officers who heard gunfire near Kirkwood Avenue and Dunn Street took a man carrying a firearm into custody, police said. Investigators had not determined whether he fired any shots, and no deaths were reported.

In Bloomington, Illinois, a 19-year-old woman died at the scene of a shooting near Illinois Wesleyan University. Seven other victims were taken to hospitals, and another woman remained critically injured, authorities said.

In Boulder, Colorado, two 19-year-old University of Colorado Boulder students were shot at a home on University Hill. One died and the other remained in critical condition. Detectives said they believed a group tried to force its way into the house before gunfire followed a scuffle. Police had earlier broken up a large party there.

A separate shooting on Main Street in Newark, Delaware, reportedly sent at least six people to hospitals. The University of Delaware had not confirmed the number of victims or whether anyone had died. Newark police were leading that investigation.
