Two unrelated shootings at Halloween gatherings in Jacksonville, Florida, left two people dead and 11 injured early Sunday, Nov. 1, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. FOX 5 Atlanta reported the toll, citing public statements from the agency and Sheriff T.K. Waters.
At a venue in the Regency area, investigators said gunfire followed a fight among people waiting to enter a party. A 17-year-old girl died, and two other people were wounded. Detectives said all three were unintended targets who had not participated in the fight.
Both survivors were expected to recover. Investigators believed at least two young men in dark clothing were responsible, but released no more detailed descriptions.
The other shooting occurred at a house party on West Fifth Street. A 20-year-old man died after being taken to a hospital. Nine additional people went to hospitals with gunshot wounds, bringing the number shot at that gathering to 10, authorities said.
The nine survivors were ages 15 to 25. One had life-threatening injuries; the others had injuries authorities described as non-life-threatening. Detectives said a fight at the house party led to two episodes of gunfire.
As of FOX 5 Atlanta’s Nov. 1 report, authorities had not identified the victims or released suspect information for the Westside shooting. Anyone with information about either incident was asked to call the sheriff’s office at 904-630-0500.
